Obituary for Vernon M. Renner

Vernon M. Renner
Vernon M. Renner, 75, of Inyokern, CA and formerly Cape Coral, FL passed away on June 22, 2017. Vernon was born in Washington, D.C. on December 28, 1941 to Herbert G. and Mary H. Renner. The family moved to St. Petersburg, FL upon his father’s retirement from the Washington, D.C. police force. Vernon graduated from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg and attended the University of Florida where he received a degree in pharmacology and later obtained an MBA from National University. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1968 and served during the Vietnam War aboard LSTs as an engineering officer. In 1970 he transferred to the Navy Medical Service Corps and served the next twenty two years as a pharmacy officer at commands across the world in California, Alaska, North Carolina, Washington State, Philippines and Florida. He and his family enjoyed travel, meeting new people and exploring new places…most of all the food! Vernon was very outgoing and loved entertaining. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He enjoyed gardening and going crabbing….his crab cakes were known around the Navy community. His smile and laugh were contagious and will be long remembered.

Vernon is survived by his three children: Carolynn Lara Gamez, William Andrew Renner and Mary Catherine Holden; his sons-in-law: Ozzy Gamez and James Holden; and four grandchildren; his brother Herbert G. Renner and wife Sherry of Washington State; nephew Glen Renner and wife Debbie of California; niece Roxanne Schrader of Texas. He is also survived by his former wife and friend Sheridan Renner.

Special thanks to Elena and Dabey Hodgson who provided him with loving care and comfort during his final days.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 12:00 P.M. with burial to follow at South Florida National Cemetery.
