Dear Linda,
Only remembering ….memory and time heal. Words are not adequate. But they are all we have.
Mourning is loving. You and Larry had 38 years together with all kinds of emotions, ups and downs, laughs and sorrows. Always moving ahead…. Always growing. Remember all of it. It is part of you. Remembering gives you strength. He really is in a transformed state. He is still with you. As long as you remember he will not die. Memory gives you strength to eventually move ahead.
What I remember is a person who was so loyal to his friends and family. Semper Fi was his motto and life force. You could count on Larry. He was there for you. He kept up with all his old and new friends. He was loyal to his schools, neighborhoods, service, employees, business contacts, family and friends.
He was a private person. He spoke few words. HE WAS A GENTLEMAN. He always looked good…. well groomed…picture perfect, like he stepped out of a magazine. He liked quality, craftmanship, in everything. He was thoughtful. He did not brag. He was shy in many ways. He was macho. He was in the class of Cary Grant, Gregory Peck and Denzel Washington.
He was a man’s man as defined in this way:
“He's the real class act. He always shaves and wears clothes that fit. He's worldly, educated, and a gentleman. He thinks that buttoned shirts are not just for special occasions and that newspapers have more than one section. While he is polite, he is not a pushover. He will swear when he needs to, but will try to control his temper. He can handle his liquor and keeps himself in shape. Most importantly, he will admit his faults and errors, because that is what real men do. He doesn't have to be gay or straight, black or white, Republic or Democrat, Atheist or Evangelical; he just does whatever he thinks makes himself a good person that he can be proud of. For these reasons, women want him and men want to be him.”
I think this says it all about Larry. We will think of him often. We will miss the fact that he is not here with us. But he leaves us with good memories. May his Memory Be Eternal. May we all live good and long lives to remember him.
George
