ROBERT A. MEY

November 4, 1933 - January 23, 2018

Del Ray Beach, Florida



Robert A. Mey (84) was born in the Bronx, attended St. Joseph de Chantel School and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War serving on the USS Glynn (APP-239) and was awarded the National Defense Medal and United Nations Service Ribbon. Upon his honorable discharge he married the love of his life, Dorothy (Spencer) with whom he shared more than sixty years of marriage. Bob is survived by his five children, Michael (Diane), Doreen Thimons (John), Kurt (Lisa), Denise Mey Giannone (Greg) and Robert (Jacquiline); his ten grandchildren, Joshua Mey (Allison), Sean Thimons, Gretchen K. Mey, Jessica Mey, Allison LaForgia, Maggie Thimons, Ryan Thimons, Amy LaForgia, Gregory Gianone, Alexander Gianone and Sebastian Mey. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Kathryne and Fritz Mey, his brother Frank X. Steinbrenner and sister Eleanor Lang.

After a thirty-five career at the New York Telephone Co., he became a professional ski instructor. His greatest love, besides his wife Dorothy, was his Grandchildren. Pop-Pop spent his time teaching them to swim, ski, play tennis and golf and trips to Disney, Universal and the beach. Bob fought the good fight during the past few years with Alzheimer’s with grace and without complaint.

A mass of Christian burial will be had on February 6, 2018 at Saint Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church 840 George Bush Blvd. Delray Beach Fl with interment at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth Fl.
