Obituary for
Emery E. Palmquist
Emery Eugene Palmquist, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on July 2, 2017. Born in Kensington, Maryland, raised near Richmond, Virginia, he graduated from Varina High School in Henrico, Virginia. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bronson during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Marion Claire (Gaiardo) Palmquist, and graduated from Penn State just after the birth of his first son, David. He began working for IBM in Endicott, New York, where his other four children were born, Terry, Carol, Linda, and Gene. In the late 60s, he was transferred to IBM in Boca Raton, Florida, and lived there ever since. He and his wife were very active in the Independent Order of the Foresters. He served many years as the High Court Treasurer for them. He was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church since his arrival in the late 60s, later joining the Knights of Columbus.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Regina Fay (Long) Palmquist, his father, Walter Nelson Palmquist, his younger brother, Harry Palmquist, and his youngest sister, Ruby (Palmquist) Farmer. His surviving loved ones include his wife of 64 years, Marion Claire (Gaiardo) Palmquist, his children and their spouses, David Richard (and Loriane) Palmquist, Terry Marie (Palmquist) Coffy (and Frank), Carol Ann (Palmquist) Dungan (and Greg), Linda Sue (Palmquist) Cormack (and Brian), Gene Dominic Palmquist (and Crystal). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Blake Thibodeaux, Jacob Thibodeaux, Tracy Coffy, Kevin (and Lisa) Coffy, Allan Palmquist, Harrison Palmquist, Addison Palmquist, Conor Dungan, Megan Palmquist, Myles Dungan, and Brady Dungan, two great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many lifetime friends.
Emery was a quiet, kind, generous, loyal, and patriotic man who loved his family with his life and held a deep and abiding faith in God.
A memorial Mass was held on Saturday, July 15th at 11am, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Boca Raton, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
